Reports: Clay Aiken’s opponent in North Carolina primary found dead in home

Former American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken held a very slim lead over challenger Keith Crisco in North Carolina’s 2nd district U.S. House Democratic primary. The race was so close it had yet to be called for either candidate.

Today, Crisco was found dead in his home:

From the Asheboro Courier-Tribune:

Asheboro businessman and congressional candidate, Keith Crisco, died suddenly at his home today.

Information is incomplete; however, early information indicates he suffered injuries from a fall around 1 p.m. at his home at 1263 Thayer Drive in Asheboro. He was reported dead at the scene when emergency workers arrived there.

Update:

Aiken responded on both his campaign and personal Twitter accounts:

Earlier this morning media mogul Ryan Seacrest appeared on the the “Today Show” to make a special announcement. Most speculation was that Seacrest would be joining the show as an entertainment correspondent, other is that he will be joining the NBC Olympics team to broadcast from London this summer. Here’s a bit more speculation, with details after the tweets:

Seacrest has confirmed that he will be joining the NBC family beginning this summer as a correspondent for the Olympics in London. After Matt Lauer asked him about a future on the “Today Show,” he skirted around the question, ultimately not giving a straightforward answer, but saying his start with the NBC family will be in the Olympics as a host.

Ryan Seacrest could play #MattLauer in the @todayshow movie, but he couldn't replace him in real life #SeacrestToday

As for American Idol, Seacrest says, “I plan to stay there. I think I will make an official announcement very, very soon.”
